- The developer does not collect, receive or sell any data about you or your network.
- Scan results, devices, findings and history are stored on your iPhone or iPad.
- There are no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs, and no account.
- A few features you choose contact public services. Each one is listed below.
Who we are
NetSamurai is made by Stefan Dasic, an independent developer ("I", "we"). This policy covers the NetSamurai app for iPhone and iPad and the website netsamuraiapp.com. Questions: support@netsamuraiapp.com.
What NetSamurai stores on your device
To show your network and compare it over time, NetSamurai saves the following on your iPhone or iPad:
- Networks: the name you give each network, its address range and, when iOS provides it, the router's hardware address.
- Devices: IP addresses, names and maker information the devices announce, hardware addresses when iOS provides them, the services they answered with, and the names, tags and "mine" marks you add.
- Checks and history: scan and check results, findings and when they were first seen and resolved, and baselines you save.
- Settings and vulnerability data: your preferences, the Pro status the App Store reports, and downloaded KEV and EPSS data.
This data never leaves your device unless you share it yourself or it is included in a device backup.
What we don't do
- No account, sign-up or login.
- No analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or tracking SDKs.
- No advertising identifier, and no tracking across apps or websites.
- Nothing about your network, devices or findings is sent to the developer or to any server we run.
- No data is sold or shared for marketing.
Scanning your local network
Scans and checks connect to devices on the Wi-Fi network you're connected to, to see which ones answer and what services they offer. This traffic stays on your local network. iOS asks for your permission (Local Network access) before the first scan, and you can turn it off in iOS Settings at any time. Checks are read-only: NetSamurai never logs in to devices or tries passwords.
When NetSamurai connects to the internet
Only the features below reach beyond your local network, and only when you use them or turn them on. They never include information about your network. Like any internet request, each one shows the receiving server your IP address and normal connection details, which that server handles under its own privacy policy.
| Feature | Contacts | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Vulnerability-data update (Check for updates, or the optional daily check) | cisa.gov (CISA's KEV catalog), with GitHub's copy of CISA's data as a fallback; api.first.org (EPSS scores) | A request for the public KEV list, and the CVE IDs NetSamurai has rules for. Not which devices or findings you have. |
| Troubleshooter internet test | captive.apple.com (Apple) | A standard connectivity test request |
| Ping, path to a destination and DNS lookup | The address or name you enter; DNS lookups go to the DNS server your network uses | The ping, trace or DNS query you started |
| Pro purchase and restore | Apple, through the App Store | Handled entirely by Apple; we never see payment details |
Notifications, background checks and Shortcuts
New-device alerts are local notifications created on your device; no push server is involved. Background checks and the Shortcuts action run on your device, on networks you allow, and work the same way as a scan you start yourself.
Reports and sharing
With Pro, you can create PDF, CSV and JSON reports. They are created on your device and go only where you send them with the iOS share sheet. Reports can include IP and hardware addresses, device names and findings, so share them only with people you trust.
Purchases
NetSamurai Pro is sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple processes the payment; the app only receives a signed record from the App Store saying whether Pro is unlocked. We don't receive your name, email or payment details.
Device backups
NetSamurai's saved data is included in your iPhone or iPad backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup), depending on your backup settings. Apple handles those backups under its own privacy policy.
If you email us
If you email support, I receive your email address and whatever you include. I use it only to answer you, don't add you to any list, and will delete our conversation on request. Please don't send passwords.
Deleting your data
In NetSamurai, open Settings, History and saved data. Swipe a network to delete it, or tap Delete all saved data. Deleting the app also removes its data from the device. Data inside existing device backups remains until those backups are replaced or deleted.
Children
NetSamurai is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
Your rights
Because we don't collect personal data through the app, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side, and your data on your device is always under your control. If you have emailed us, you can ask for a copy or deletion of that correspondence, wherever you live, including under the GDPR and CCPA.
This website
netsamuraiapp.com sets no cookies, runs no analytics or trackers, and loads nothing from other companies; the fonts are hosted on this site. Like any web server, the hosting provider may keep standard access logs (IP address, browser and pages requested) for security and operation.
Changes to this policy
If NetSamurai's handling of data changes, this page will be updated and the effective date changed. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
